Snowplate Hummus

4 cups Cooked Chickpeas or 2 cans rinsed and drained
1/2 cup Lemon Juice
1/2 cup Tahini (sesame paste)
1/4 cup olive oil
3 cloves garlic (this is a minimum)
salt and pepper to taste
bunch of parsley or cilantro
optionally add chillies or cumin or roasted bell peppers

Blend in a blender. Blend some more.

Martin L. West Memorial Cookies - Conceived for Snowplate 2007

3/4 c shortening or butter
1 egg
1 c sugar
1/3 c molasses
1/2 c whole wheat flour
1 c flour
1/4 c flax seeds (ground is best)
1 1/2 c rolled oats
1 c raisins
1 1/2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp each: connamon, ginger (fresh is best), cloves


Cream shortening or butter, egg, sugar and molasses with an electric mixer in a large bowl.
In a separate bowl (or carefully, in the same bowl), stir together the remaining ingredients.
Add flout mixture to butter mixture and mix some more.
Roll into balls, coat in sugar and back for 8-10 minutes in 350 F oven.
If dough is too sticky to roll nicely, increase flour by 1/4 c increments until it's not sticky anymore.
